Chicago: Declare a Climate Emergency, Now.
Folks
from Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington.
The time is over for words. We have almost lost all faith in the leaders
and almost lost all faith in words. In
Canada for example, a climate emergency was declared and the next day the
Trans-Mountain Pipeline was approved by the Prime Minister. In the UK, the leaders lie about the progress
they’ve made and set a target so far in the future that it will be too
late. However, on the road to recovery,
the first step is admitting that there is a problem. That is the first step that is taught in
every AA meeting, a meeting for those who are addicted. If the leaders cannot admit that there is a
problem, pointed out by all the world’s most rigorous scientists, then there can
be no hope for true recovery. 2050 is
going to be too late. The tipping points
will have already been past and it will be too late to save the planet. The ask if for Lori Lightfoot, mayor of the city
of Chicago, the center of our dreams and ambitions, to declare a climate emergency. The children marched today and died at city
hall, but nobody employed at city hall watched.
